Supporting African initiatives
ASMA grew out of encounters in Africa and out of our work in the field alongside African colleagues in mental health and social exclusion.
Actions for Mental Health in Africa is the association we created to carry this commitment to all those African colleagues met in the field. We support projects developed together with them in the field of mental health. The association also commits itself to starting new projects.
Years of work
During our stays in Africa we worked with doctors, psychologists, social workers, educators and artists, and saw their commitment despite a severe shortage of means.
Their inventiveness in therapeutic support, and the questions raised by this “other” clinical practice, led to exchanges so fruitful — clinically and humanly — that we decided to commit ourselves more actively alongside them.
What ASMApsy sets out to do
- To back local mental health teams, through training and the sharing of clinical experience.
- To support associations engaged in social, educational and vocational reintegration.
- To encourage networks of mutual aid and exchange between African associations, with the support of professionals.
